Repel & Kill - advantix® is differentConventional parasiticides just kill fleas and ticks only after they get to the dog’s skin and have the chance to have their blood meal. advantix® is different. It repels the most relevant ticks, sand flies, stable flies and mosquitoes before they have the chance to bite and it effectively kills ticks and fleas. Less biting, less stress, less risk of diseaseThanks to its repelling activity, advantix® reduces parasite bites and thus the risk of diseases and the stress for the dog: a far more effective performance than conventional parasiticides. Conventional parasiticides only kill. advantix® repels and kills.
The logical choiceDog’s health is endangered by parasite-derived serious diseases like Lyme borreliosis, babesiosis, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, rickettsiosis and leishmaniosis. During blood-sucking, parasites can transmit the dangerous pathogens via their saliva. That's why killing external parasites is not enough. They should be stopped from biting. advantix® reduces the risk of pathogen transmission due to its repelling activity against ticks and sand flies/mosquitoes and effectively kills ticks and fleas.
Repellency against ticksBesides the acaricidal efficacy, a given for any approved tick product, the active ingredient Permethrin in advantix® holds an important additional property. This is the repellent effect, a benefit to significantly reduce tick attachment in the first place. The importance of the repellent property of Permethrin is the inhibition of blood feeding by reducing the numbers of ticks attached to the dog. Laboratory-controlled studies showed the repellent and acaricidal effect of advantix®, also in comparison to Frontline®. Repellency against sand flies/mosquitoesadvantix® demonstrated repellent activity against Culex pipiens mosquitoes, as determined by the ability to prevent feeding, ranging from 96.5% to 100% at all the points in time assessed during this study. In contrast, repellency of Frontline® Plus ranged from 83.3% on day 1, to a low of 0% on day 3, to 5.5% on day 30. In sand flies (Phlebotomus papatasi), repellent efficacy was based on the sand flies' feeding rate in the treatment group compared to the untreated group. In these laboratory studies, advantix® proved to repel P. papatasi for up to two weeks. In the follow-up study against the sand fly species P. perniciosus, which can infect dogs and humans with the life-threatening leishmaniosis, a repellent efficacy of more than 90% was observed even three weeks after treatment with advantix®. A similar effect was found for the most prominent leishmaniosis vector in South America, Lutzomyia longipalpis: more than 90% repellent efficacy for up to three weeks. Repellency against stable fliesTwo controlled efficacy studies were conducted to test the repellent efficacy of advantix® against the stable fly Stomoxys calcitrans. In both studies investigators observed a repellent effect. Blood feeding on dogs was inhibited for four weeks after treatment with advantix®. |
