Efficacy against fleas

advantix® has been proven to kill fleas and flea larvae up to four weeks after treatment. The benefits of Imidacloprid, the active ingredient against fleas, can be summarized by two major characteristics: It selectively binds to insect receptors instead of vertebrate receptors, and it has a fast onset of protection efficacy.

The latter is due to the fact that Imidacloprid first inhibits the feeding of the flea by paralyzing the mouth parts of the parasite at sub-lethal dosages, forcing the flea to stop blood sucking within a few minutes. This is subsequently followed by the death of the flea.

Fast onset of efficacy is, besides the persistent effect, the most important aspect in flea control at our companion animals. Fleas are not only a pest and regarded as a hygienic problem, but they may cause serious health problems for both dog and owner (see flea-borne diseases).
